What was your first job?
I was a housekeeper at a new hotel in town. After that job, I never looked at hotel stays the same. People think HR has stories...
Tell us about your community involvement.
I was a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters twice - to two great little girls who are now all grown up - one is a nurse, the other is in college. I also served on the Big League - helping to organize activities for Bigs & Littles. I served on the Wichita SHRM Board for close to a decade - Director At Large, Certification, Programs, Pres-Elect, President, and Past-President. I'm currently serving on the Kansas SHRM State Council as Secreatary/Treasurer and 2018 Annual Conference Co-Chair - previously I was the Membership Director. I'm on the Advance Kansas Advisory Committee, help with my daughters Brownie Troop, and recently signed on to lead a Girl Scout Daisy Troop. Previously I was involved with the Chamber's Workforce 2010, Workforce Alliance Board of Directors and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. As a family we adopt kids and families around the holidays and we serve in our Church.
When driving in the car, what is playing over the speakers?
it's the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show in the a.m. The rest of the day I am a station hopper - I despise commercials and love all music - except techno.
What is your favorite vacation destination?
Vegas - even when it's dreadfully hot, the pools are perfect, the drinks are tasty, there is something to do 24/7, and the best part - there are no bugs!
What piece of advice would you give someone starting out in Human Resources?
Join your local HR organization and attend learning opportunities. You will always learn something and you will meet great people!
What do you do in your free time?
I have four kids so in my free time I catch up on laundry. ;) When I can - I read a book, attempt a Pinterest project, or peruse the aisles of Hobby Lobby. I'm pretty boring.
Why did you join SHRM?
For the networking. I have met so many wonderful, dedicated people of whom many I call friends. SHRM is fantastic for resources - be it tools/templates, Q&A, etc. Any situation I've ever encountered, SHRM has been a great resource.
What is your favorite quote?
"Be yourself, everyone else is taken."
What is your favorite place to eat in Wichita?
Bella Luna Cafe is always a good idea!
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what is one thing you MUST have with you?
Assuming my family is with me - an endless supply of lip balm. Eating coconuts and fish is no fun with chapped lips.
