2008 Wichita SHRM HR Professional of the Year - Send in your nomination(s) by 06/30/08
WHAT?
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 SHRM Wichita Chapter HR Professional of the Year Award. The individual selected will represent our chapter at the Kansas State Conference for the KS HR Professional of the Year / George Trombold Award. Both awards are based on, and recognize, outstanding achievement in these three areas: the field of human resource management, community service, and SHRM participation.
WHY?
The HR Professional of the Year Award is a peer award. Through it, we can acknowledge the best among us. It is important, not only to the recipient, but as a means to acknowledge the value of our profession, and the people who serve it, to our businesses and our community.
WHO?
You may nominate any Wichita Chapter member, including past recipients, who is an active professional in the human resource management field, and has a minimum of five years experience in the profession.
HOW?
All you need to do is think about the worthy things being done by your HR professional peers. Then e-mail their name to me, at jon.m.tiger@spiritaero.com, along with their e-mail address. I will e-mail them telling them that you have nominated them, and invite them to complete an attached application form if they wish to be considered for this award.
WHEN?
Nominations are due to Jon Tiger by close of business Monday June 30th. Applications are due from nominees by close of business Monday July 7th, preferably by e-mail at jon.m.tiger@spiritaero.com, or by regular mail at P.O. Box 780008 MC K16-19 Wichita, KS 67278-0008.
New SHRM Student Chapter Now Forming
Representatives from Webster University and Friends University are working together with the Wichita Chapter to develop a local SHRM Student Chapter for students at area colleges and universities, other than WSU (which already has a student chapter). Contact: Kim Scanlan, tscanlank@cox.net

KSSHRM Offers HR Scholarships
The Kansas SHRM State Council has established a scholarship fund in the amount of $2,500 for the year of 2008. The scholarship money is available to assist a Human Resources Professional advance his/her career and the Profession within the State of Kansas. The scholarships will provide financial assistance to deserving HR Professionals and students enrolled in an HR curriculum. For more information please review the KS SHRM Scholarship Application.
Modern Expatriates: Global Executive Managers (Online Recertification Credits Available)
The Expatriate Foundation is pleased to announce approval from the Human Resource Certification Institutue (HRCI) to facilitate a course on Expatriates - The course is currently available until December 31, 2008 for completion. It consists of finve modules that the student will review and learn from. A ten question quiz is posted after the information for the student to take. The student will email the ten quiz answers to HRCI@expatriatefoundation.com to ensure an 80% pass rate (8 out of 10 questions marked correctly). A certificate of completion stating the credit program ID number will be emailed to the student withing 2 business days - to ensure they can log the recertification credits in a timely manner. Moscow's Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker - Discount Offered to KS SHRM Members

SHRM/Rutgers Leading Indicator of National Employment (LINE)
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations are now releasing its measures for the service sector. The SHRM/Rutgers LINE index is based on a monthly survey of Human Resource professionals at manufacturing and service sector firms. LINE measures change in five components: number of employees, number of vacant positions, difficulty in recruiting highly qualified employees, compensation offered to new hires, and hiring plans for the upcoming month.
