Suzie Ahlstrand, Vice President of Community Advancement with The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, will be discussing the findings of Visioneering Wichita’s Racial Diversity, Opportunity and Harmony Survey. The survey serves as a benchmark for measuring advancements in racial diversity for Visioneering Wichita’s long-term strategic plan. The survey, conducted every two years, measured perceptions of racial opportunities and harmony issues in social interaction, jobs and education. Suzie will provide insights into the process, key values, results and next steps on how this relates to HR professionals. Keith Lawing, Executive Director of the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas, will discuss the ongoing evolution of the public workforce system. In the past 5-10 years, public policy at the Federal, State and local level on workforce development and job training has undergone a significant transition, primarily to recognize that employers are just as much a “customer” for the public workforce system as the job seeker is. The impact and effect in South Central Kansas is now being seen through the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Kansas 1st Initiative, the creation of the Sedgwick County Technical Education and Training Authority (and the training facility recently approved to be built at Jabarra Airport), and the relocation of the Wichita Workforce Center. This program has been certified for 1 credit hour through HRCI and is sponsored by Shred-It. |
