A recession affects everyone and every aspect of our lives. A recession with a slow, jobless recovery can weigh heavily on employees and organizations. Stress grows as the morale in organizations is lowered by layoffs, no raises, furloughs, and the pain of uncertainty in the months ahead. Frozen, with personal and corporate energy contracted, managers and HR professionals may be riding through the winter of a bust economy. Good news, there are things we can to alleviate the misery and “tanked” morale. Come and learn how to boost morale, focus on the positives of work life, and get ideas for how to become a positive resource for an ailing culture. Organizations have power gradients, varying degrees of vertical integrity, cohesion/separation, engagement/isolation, and pockets of toxic energy. How well do you know your company?

Ron does applied research...loves to take on projects that are challenging scientifically and that can have positive benefits to the community. Currently, he is doing research on school violence among 6th graders and teen dating violence; both are federally funded. Ron frequently speaks to groups in the community and does training in businesses and organizations regionally and nationally, especially on the topics of co-worker relationships and healthy work culture. Ron is working on the third edition of a book titled The Spirit of Sociology and is working on two others; Living Hell: Work and the American Dream and The Intimate Experience.
Ron is married with four kids, between the ages of 31 and 41, and the most wonderful partner in all creation....Linda. Linda and I both love to garden, cook, teach, and work with people in all kinds of settings who are interested in making their lives more understandable. Ron and Linda have eight grand children between three months and ten years old. Kids and grandkids are an important focus in our home, and we marvel (sometimes laugh) as the chapters in their lives are written.
Ron has been in the Sociology Department at WSU for 40 years and is currently Chair of Sociology. He teaches about 1700 students per year in his classes. |
