The Obama Administration has indicated support for many changes in the employment area. While most of these have not yet been enacted, they remain of interest to human resource professionals. This presentation will summarize changes that have been enacted, including:
- The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009
- COBRA subsidies as part of the American Recovering Re-investment Act of 2009 (AARA)
as well as other laws for which the Obama Administration has indicated support but have not yet been enacted, including:
- Employee Free Choice Act
- Arbitration Fairness Act
- Respect Act
- Amendments to Civil Rights Act of 2008
- Paycheck Fairness Act
- Fair Pay Act
- Amendments to Employee Non-Discrimination Act to add protection for homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgenders
- WARN Act amendments
- Healthy Families Act
- Patriot Corporations Act
- Working Families Flexibility Act
About the presenter:
Eric Metz assists clients in all matters relating to employment relations, including both preventive consultation and helping employers with federal, state and local employment law compliance, as well as implementing and drafting personnel policies, employee handbooks, severance and release agreements, and noncompetition agreements. He also handles litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including claims relating to disability, age, sex, race and religion discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge matters, wage and hour issues, and noncompetition contract litigation.
Mr. Metz also has over 29 years of experience in a variety of litigation matters, including a wide variety of business disputes, contract disputes, and oil and gas matters. In addition, he is experienced in education law, having represented a private university as its primary counsel for over 20 years. Mr. Metz has experience in media law matters, having represented television and radio stations in media-related issues. Mr. Metz has received the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory’s highest “AV” rating for lawyers, reflecting exemplary professional expertise, and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of labor and employment law. He has been selected for inclusion in “Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers.” In addition, he is designated by Chambers USA as one of “Kansas’ leading lawyers for labor and employment.
