In an age of rising health care costs employer-sponsored wellness programs, encouraging healthier employee lifestyles, have become more popular. While such programs can have many positive attributes, they also can pose certain legal risks. This program will discuss the legal boundaries for wellness programs as well as some of the potential traps for the unwary employer.
Jay Rector is the practice group leader for the firm's labor and employment law litigation team. Throughout his 19 years with Foulston Siefkin, Jay has represented clients of all sizes on a wide variety of labor-management, employment, and ERISA benefit matters. He enjoys Martindale Hubbell Law Directory's highest "AV" rating for lawyers, is listed in Best Lawyers in America, and Chambers USA as a leading employment lawyer, and is a prolific teacher and speaker at seminars as well as the author of numerous published articles on the subjects of employment and benefits law. Jay received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University along with his law degree from the University of Iowa and remains a proud alumnus of the "Hawkeye" state. One of Jay's great loves is working with children, which he nourishes as a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Greater Wichita YMCA, church groups, and other civic organizations serving children. In his spare time, to the extent it exists, Jay enjoys supervising his teenage daughters (or as they term it "ruining their lives"), skiing, biking, scuba-diving and running.
