Religious discrimination lawsuits have become a major threat to all employers. Over the last 10 years, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has recorded a 69% increase in the number of religious discrimination charges filed. Although that number indicates a sizable increase, it does not accurately indicate the actual damage to employers, which has increased even more dramatically. In the same 10‑year period, the EEOC recorded a 217% increase in the number of settlements and a 191% increase in the amount of monetary benefits awarded. Now more than ever, employers must understand the importance of complying with religious anti‑discrimination laws and the consequences for violating them.
The presentation will cover issues employers address on this topic including:
- Employer's accommodations
- Scheduling Conflicts
- Dress Codes
- Proselytization and Other Religious Expression
- Recent Developments in Tenth Circuit
