Diversity…a huge subject and a timely initiative. Many companies desire a diverse organization, yet how does a company initiate a valuable diversity program? Tammy Rasmussen, Area Learning Consultant for Cox Communications, will share how their company launched a thorough diversity program four years ago.
Tammy will discuss the benefits of an inclusion-oriented versus traditional diversity-based program, some challenges encountered while trying to be inclusive and finding a balance with exclusive tendencies, some hot zones discovered while operating under the governance of Affirmative Action to address the issue of preparedness and finally, creating the culture-diverse mindset that has now been established.
Tammy Rasmussen is a graduate of Friends University and has been in human resources for more than 12 years with emphasis in training, recruitment and diversity management. She worked as a training supervisor for the Grand Casino in Gulfport, MS for two years before returning to her hometown of Wichita in 1997. In 2000,
Tammy accepted a position with Cox Communications where she has had the opportunity to manage the Recruiting function for one of the area’s “Best Places to Work.” In 2003, Tammy was charged with creating and implementing a Diversity program for Cox Communications Kansas. Was one of two professionals selected as an executive development trainer on a nation-wide basis to receive "Master Level Certification for Teaching Trainers in Diversity and Inclusion Courses.” She is currently the Diversity Director for the Wichita Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
