From the President

2008 New Leadership, New Membership, New Sense of SHRM Value

With 2008 already well underway, I feel that it is important to share the vision and goals of the board. Our main objective is for HR professionals to understand the value SHRM membership can mean personally to a developing career. We hope to develop greater interest in SHRM by addressing real-time Human Resources issues through the topics and speakers that make up the programs we have planned for this year.

Committees that were formed in 2007 learned from a membership survey that certain topics were of specific interest to your organization. As a result, we have contacted individuals who are well known and widely respected to participate in programs that may give us greater insight into rules/regulations and other matters that will prove to be valuable in addressing the ever-changing administration of human resources issues. We will make every effort to be certain that each program will not be repetitive and will maximize continuing recertification credit towards a PHR, SPHR, and GPHR.

In order to keep SHRM exciting and valuable, we realize that our membership should continue to grow. We plan to expand our efforts to attract greater participation in the organization at all levels in our field. Everyone can help us in this effort by inviting members of management (C-Suite’s), or fellow HR staff to meetings and events sponsored by SHRM. This will impress upon them that when you speak about employment issues, you speak with a great deal of knowledge gained as result of your active participation in an organization made up of many of the elite in the human resources field.

I look forward to serving you as Chapter President. If you have any suggestions for a program, or how we can better meet your needs, please don’t hesitate to let me know. My email address is
dcox@tsgstaff.com.

I hope to see you at our next SHRM event.
